Vasectomy: No More Babies

Updated: Sep 2

Ever wondered where babies come from?

Well, it all starts in the testes!

First, sperm is produced in the testes, then it takes a little pit stop in the epididymis to mature. Yep, even sperm needs some time to grow up. Once fully developed, it travels through the vas deferens, pauses at the seminal vesicles, and mixes with semen. This step is key because semen—produced by the seminal vesicles—protects the sperm on its journey. From there, the prostate gland contracts, pushing everything out through the urethra and… ta-daa! Ejaculation! Ok...look at the picture and re-read this part! Does it make sense now?

When Baby-Making Isn’t the Goal

Now, when a man decides he’s done with fatherhood but also isn’t a fan of condoms, a vasectomy becomes the next option. And no—despite what you’ve heard, the pull-out method is not highly effective.

But don’t stress, vasectomies are a quick outpatient procedure. The doctor makes a tiny incision, snips the vas deferens, and just like that, sperm can’t travel anymore. It stays in the scrotum, while everything else carries on as usual. The whole thing takes about 15–20 minutes.

Boy cut those damn tubes! You’ll be back to sex in a jiffy, worry-free!

Sex After a Vasectomy

Here’s the part everyone wants to know: yes, you can still have sex! Once you’re cleared, it’s back to business as usual. You’ll still get erections, you’ll still ejaculate, but your semen won’t contain sperm.

Think of it this way: sperm are the fish, semen is the ocean. Even if the fish are gone, the ocean is still very much there.

Reversibility (Just in Case)

And if life surprises you—say you fall in love and suddenly want kids again (wink)—don’t panic. Most vasectomies are reversible. A little snip-snap in the other direction, and fertility may be restored.

I’ve told all my homeboys to get vasectomies! For one it’s way healthier for us to get vasectomies than y’all be on birth control and for 2 it’s not even that bad of a process!

There's research on a device that'll be used as a sort of on/off switch to make the reversal of fertility easier. #publichealth
