Friends and Lovers Book Review | Eric Jerome Dickey Romance Novel

This was a fun, emotional, and eye-opening read that explored love, friendship, and the small misunderstandings that can spiral into major life drama.

This story follows a group of best friends whose romantic lives intersect in unexpected ways, making for moments that are sad, funny, and often painfully relatable.

What stood out most to me is how one conversation can completely clear up a misunderstanding. You will literally read how often ego, pride, or miscommunication can create unnecessary tension in relationships. I can’t lie, this made the story relatable! I’m guilty of letting my ego win.

Watching one couple navigate these pitfalls was both frustrating and satisfying, especially because the couple suffered—but ironically, that made the resolution all the more gratifying. I’m trying my best not to give it away!!

The dynamics between friends-turned-lovers and how they interact with each other’s circles made this book a page turner. I wanted to know if they would all make it, would the group dynamics change if one couple separated, will there be jealousy and comparison—I was ready to get to the conflict!

Personally I’ve never been in a situation where me and my best friend meet a set of best friends and start dating—but reading this story made me grateful for that. I felt like I had a front-row seat to a modern relationship experiment. In real life, I wouldn’t like that at all!

Overall there was humor, heartbreak, and “aha” moments that made it impossible to put this book down.

A movie adaptation is on the horizon. I strongly recommended reading this novel before watching the movie as the movie typically always disappoints!

Happy Reading,
