Soul Ties

Soul Tie-"An intense spiritual connection between two people that result in a mutual learning experience." -Brides.com

For generations people have linked soul ties exclusively to sex. It is believed, every person you have sexual intercourse with leaves a piece of their soul with you which results in a "soul tie." After reading several articles, my thoughts have been confirmed, soul ties are not real. At least in the way the black community has explained it to us.

By definition, soul ties can occur between platonic friends, mentor and mentee, mother and daughter, the list continues. These examples do not include sex but can include "an intense spiritual connection and a mutual learning experience." Upon doing research, I found it interesting that most articles were for women and Christian based audiences.

According to the bible, premarital sex is a sin. However, there is no reason to use a scare tactic to dissuade people from engaging in the act. Certified Sex Therapist, De'Andrea Blaylock-Johnson LCSW, CST said it best, "'soul ties,' at least in regard to sex, are really attachments in disguise and an over-spiritualization of normal feelings." It is normal to "miss" someone after sex or a relationship! It is also normal to "crave" the pleasure you received from them. Hold on, I have one more....it is also normal to think about them for a great deal of time! You're human. You have feelings. Sometimes ending a relationship is a grieving process. To speak scientifically, during sex you are releasing a higher dose of hormones than normal. One in particularly is Oxytocin, which is your love or bonding hormone. Therefore, missing someone or craving them sexually is to be expected! But is your soul tied to theirs? No...not because of sex at least!
