"The 12 grapes of luck."
In the 1800s, the spaniards created a New Year ritual for good fortune and prosperity. Starting at 11:59pm on December 31st, one should eat 12 grapes to represent the 12 months of the year. All the grapes should be finished in one minute to receive luck, success, and positive energy in the new year.
Recently on TikTok, women who participated in the ritual last year posted about the incredible love they endured this year because of the grapes. After numerous videos, the spaniard superstition about success turned into a call for love.
Traditionally, people ate Aledo grapes at home or in large groups with great intentions towards finances, health, love, sex etc. However, the TikTok trend of eating the grapes under the table while wearing red panites took over the historical ritual amongst non-spaniards.
In the black community, we are known for having our entire house cleaned with laundry completed before the clock strikes midnight! Then on New Year's day, we enjoy black eyed peas and collard greens for good luck and fortune!
Now if you participated in both or one culture's superstition belief as I did, I want you to know that no matter what, God is in control of it all. The true success to life is planning, praying for God's guidance and protection, then lastly, executing and learning! Rinse and repeat.
Until Next Time,
