After Sex, Adore Me!

Aftercare is an essential part of the sexual experience and I'll die on the hill of debate about it!

Many believe aftercare is reserved for exclusive relationships and that is far from the truth.

Aftercare is defined as taking care of yourself and each other AFTER sex!

Aftercare can include:
  • Cuddling
  • Checking in with each other, "How do you feel?"
  • Cleaning each other with a warm cloth
  • Soft kisses
  • Journaling
The list continues....

The activities listed above are not synonymous to exclusivity or love. All are appropriate actions, even for one-night stands, and "sneaky links" (FWB). Which in my opinion, these types of relationship needs aftercare the most....

During sex, regardless of the relationship status, your body releases hormones that makes you feel good: oxytocin, endorphins, serotonin, and dopamine.

When you are having sex with someone new, doing something new, or doing something that goes against your values, those hormones may surge!

Eventually, those hormones will descend which can result in an emotional crash lasting up to 72 hours post sex!

The crash can cause you to experience negative emotions like: regret, disliking yourself or your partner, shame, some feel suicidal.

Reflect on your sex life for a second....Have you ever felt disgusted after masturbation or had an attitude with your partner after sex? You crashed!

So make sure you are engaging in aftercare with whomever you are having sex with to combat those negative feelings!
